D.C. Court of Appeals Hybrid Oral Arguments – April 9, 2025

At trial when the jury panel appeared in the courtroom for jury selection, the defense protested that the panel did not represent a fair cross-section of the community, as required by District of Columbia statute.  This case raised questions about the practical application of the statute when apparent problems with the panel arise at the start of jury selection.  The Court of Appeals rejected this appeals challenge, finding that the trial defense attorney failed to follow the strict procedures in the statute to challenge the jury panel.
